Color's of Guatemala

Guatemala, the country, it’s beautiful people and colorful natural beauty, will captivate you immediately. Sometimes the country is shrouded in mist with birds singing and emerald green beauty, while other times the sky is so blue, with a rainbow of flowers everywhere you look. It truly is almost surreal as you take in the 360degree views.  Come on our Colors of Guatemala tour and we’ll share with you a taste of historic Guatemala City for a brief visit followed by Lake Atitlan where our experiences include exclusive events on journeys around the Lake and beyond including Chichicastenango bountiful market. After, we explore Ancient Mayan ruins on our way to the Picturesque Antigua for a special Volcano visit, Historic City Tour, and will walk with a farmer on their coffee acreage then back to their home for coffee tasting. We finish the tour with a visit to a nearby community that celebrates All Saints Day with a 300 year old kite making tradition to honor their loved ones by flying them over their graves once a year. There will be more views and incredible venues to share with you for our *First Crush Magic Hours. Come #fallinlovewiththeworld with us when we go to Guatemala.

Itinerary

Location Map for Colors of Guatemala
  • DAY 1:»

Make your way to Guatemala City, where we suggest arriving a day early to get acclimated. We’ll meet at Casa Veranda Hotel to drop our bags, before we head out early afternoon for our *First Crush Magic Hour in the heartbeat of the Guatemala City Historical District. We feel you shouldn’t bypass this bohemian beautiful city so we’ve added a short, but perfect afternoon, to get you ready to embrace the rest of our “Colors of Guatemala tour!” Late dinner on your own near hotel or order in room service at the hotel restaurant.
    Meals Included: Magic Hour

  • DAY 2:»

After an early breakfast, we’ll head out to Antigua, the city surrounded by volcanoes and filled with gorgeous baroque architecture and cobblestone streets. We’ll stop in the square and have some time to break for lunch on your own and a little exploring. Don’t worry! We will be back in three days for time to explore Antigua. We’ll cruise in our private transport to Lake Atitlan, a picturesque body of water in a massive volcano. We’ll check into Porto Hotel del Lago in Panajachel, which will be our vantage point for a few days exploring Lakeside Mayan Villages. We’ll dine together tonight at a local restaurant for some Pana, as it is affectionately called. It’s becoming a must on the foodie trail, so we will take you to a First Crush Worthy location for dinner. We’ll sleep tonight on the edge of an ancient volcano!
    Meals Included: Breakfast, Dinner

  • DAY 3:»

Another early start. After breakfast, we go just North of Atitlan for a bustling market experience in Chichicastenango. This market is photographed and shared worldwide. It is a touristy market and we will meander through on a ‘Market Day’, but we are going to share a local treasure with you as we visit a brilliantly colorful cemetery perched on a hill above ‘ChiChi,’ steeped in Mayan tradition. Within plenty of photo ops, we will find a great lunch spot together. After lunch, back to the lake for some free time, a siesta, or maybe a little shopping, followed by exploring and dinner on your own. We have a local list of our favorite restaurants near our hotel to share with you.
    Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch

  • DAY 4:»

After breakfast, we are off on an adventure to Atitlan Nature Preserve. There will be opportunity for zip lines, butterfly geodome, trails, and hanging bridges. We’ll spend the day here in wonder and thrill. This is a not to be missed attraction, if not for the extraordinary views while up close with the jungle and waterfalls, but this organization is a force in the environmental cause: Atitlan Azul and we love supporting them. Afternoon brings us back to relax or head to nearby town Comolapa for an intimate textile tour. Back to Panajachel for dinner on your own, then go visit with your favorite vendor on an evening stroll or night out listening to music.
    Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch

  • DAY 5:»

Good Morning day five! We have some fun options today… To rise early, very early…like 3am, for an exquisite chance to experience a sunrise view from our expert local guide taking us up the famous Indian Nose Sunrise Hike. This sunrise has made many top ten lists! We definitely think it is ‘crushworthy’ and reason enough for a ridiculous wake up call. For those that want to sleep in, there will be a breakfast at the hotel followed by time on the lake on a Kayak or a SUP (stand up paddle)with instruction, if needed, or free up close and personal time with the lake. It’s always a surreal time on Lake Atitlan in the morning compared to the afternoon, so take this opportunity if you’re all about getting on the lake. Back in town, our group will reconvene for lunch on your own. This afternoon, we’ll meet on the dock for our Sunset Boat Lake Tour where we head to neighboring villages Santa Catarina Polopo. We will learn about the manufacturing of the ceramics made here, some history, and watch the sunset across the lake. We will have a special place for dinner tonight to end our day off right!
    Meals Included: Breakfast, Dinner

  • DAY 6:»

After our last morning breakfast on the Lake, we private charter back to Antigua. Along the way, we stop to visit the ancient Mayan Ruins of Iximche, which was once the capital of the Kaqchikel Maya kingdom. After, we stop for lunch in nearby Tecpan, which is known as Guatemala’s foodie forest region. Late afternoon, check into our hotel and explore the cobblestone streets under your feet. Dinner on your own and relaxing into the Antigua feeling as you get to know this colorful city.
    Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch

  • DAY 7:»

Breakfast at the hotel. We have our local guide today showing us all the Historic buildings with their captivating Baroque Architecture and every one with it’s own story. We’ll stop for a few tastes along the way, including Dona Luisa’s famous banana bread since 1978, then making our way to catch an open transport to one of our favorite hillsides for a Lunch Treat and incredible view at Cerro San Cristobal. Tonight, we have Movie Night and pizza set up to watch La Camioneta: the journey of One American School Bus. It’s an excellent short film, add pizza and a rooftop with Volcan de Fuego in the distance, and your night goes down in the books!
    Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

  • DAY 8:»

Breakfast at the hotel, then we stroll through the early market on our way to visit the Bus Station to see those Chicken Buses in person. We climb on board to visit nearby village San Antonio Aguas Calientas, to visit our friends, and meet the sewing club that made our hand-crafted water bottle holders. We’ll visit, practice English, and maybe even some Spanish. We also have a short private tour of this hillside community and lunch before we hop on another chicken bus, for our ride back to Antigua. We arrive back in time to refresh for our hike up to Pacaya Volcano, to roast marshmallows in a volcanic firehole!
    Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dessert

  • DAY 9:»

Today we will rise and visit local Caoba Farms for a special Saturday tasting and beautiful surrounding. See an incredible variety and learn about the unique agriculture of the valleys around Antigua. This afternoon we will also take a guided walk to Iglesia de La Merced, a majestic yellow church, for a local’s Saturday afternoon and a wandering *First Crush Magic Hour. Enjoy your last evening exploring the magical streets of Antigua with too many recommendations for another amazing dinner.
    Meals Included: Breakfast, Magic Hour

  • DAY 10:»

After breakfast, we will check out and head to the All Saints Day Kite Festival in nearby villages Sumpango and Santiago Sacatepequez. We will immerse ourselves in this once a year festival that has been celebrated for over 300 years in this community. Embrace the colors of the kites and learn about how each family has their own design. Watch these kites take off and the process of human will power to get them to rise. This is a perfect ending to Colorful Guatemala! I bet you can’t even count how many different shades of the color wheel you saw this week. We private transfer back to Guatemala City to say goodbye. We suggest a midnight departure flight or stay an extra night in Guatemala City.
    Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch
